MAJOR (MAJOR MAJOR) AL QAEDA ARREST

Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, arguably the #3 guy in al Qaeda, has been arrested in Pakistan. Does this mean that bin Laden and al Zawahiri are themselves still in the area? If so, that alone could be a huge break. The cable news nets have been on it for almost half an hour and it hit the AP wires just before. Here's the story.

Pakistani-American Fox News talking head (and onetime Clinton associate) Mansoor Ijaz was clearly pulled into the studio only minutes ago -- he's wearing an Olympics baseball cap and a casual button-up sweater that has 'Saturday afternoon' written all over it. Ijaz says the war in Iraq can be fought all the more safely -- Mohammed helped plan 9/11 and other big attacks. They've gotta be hurting in Qaedaland today.

P.S. Not that anybody here really comes for breaking news, but that blasted Insta-you-know-who beat my post by about a minute. (Grrr.) He notes that the arrest is "another nail in the coffin of the 'Iraq is distracting from the war on Al Qaeda' theory." Damn straight. Let's roll.

P.P.S. The title is not a reference to Catch-22. That would require another "major."
